Renaming

The Department of Philosophy, Religion and Liberal Studies will be renamed the Department of Philosophy, Religion and Interdisciplinary Studies. This change will more accurately represent the majors in the department, since the Liberal Studies major was changed to the Interdisciplinary Studies major in October 2024.

Departmental Merger

The Department of Mathematics will merge with the Department of Chemistry, Physics & Astronomy, consolidating into a single Department of Chemistry, Physics & Mathematics, organized internally by disciplinary divisions. This structural realignment will provide stronger intellectual collaboration across mathematics, physics and chemistry; improved mentoring and advising coherence; enhanced coordination with the Georgia Tech Dual Degree Pathway; and more coordinated recruitment and retention strategies. 

All faculty, staff and laboratory positions will be retained during the merger.
