Higher Education Champion Named Dean of GCSU’s John H. Lounsbury College of Education
Dr. Loleta D. Sartin has been named dean of Georgia College & State University’s John H. Lounsbury College of Education, effective June 15, 2026.
Dr. Sartin currently serves as professor and associate dean for strategic initiatives in Mercer University’s College of Professional Advancement. She brings more than 25 years of experience in higher education leadership, strategic planning, accreditation, enrollment growth and workforce-focused academic program development.
“Dr. Sartin is a collaborative and strategic leader with a strong record of advancing student success and building meaningful partnerships,” said Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Holley Roberts. “Her experience leading interdisciplinary initiatives and developing innovative academic pathways will serve the John H. Lounsbury College of Education exceptionally well.”
At Mercer, Dr. Sartin leads high-impact projects supporting enrollment partnerships and institutional effectiveness across programs serving adult and professional learners. She previously served as associate dean of Mercer’s Tift College of Education and held leadership roles at Middle Georgia State University, where she helped develop educator preparation programs and strengthen community partnerships.
Dr. Sartin has extensive experience securing and managing external funding, including serving as principal investigator on a $9.1 million U.S. Department of Education grant focused on educator recruitment and workforce development in high-need areas.
She also serves as a Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) reviewer, chairs site visit teams for the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and recently served on the executive committee of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education.

Lounsbury College of Education,” Dr. Sartin said. “I am deeply inspired by GCSU’s commitment to a holistic liberal arts education, a foundation I believe is essential to preparing thoughtful, responsive and future-ready educators. To serve in this role is a responsibility I accept with both gratitude and a strong sense of purpose.”
Dr. Sartin earned a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Saint Louis University, a master’s degree in elementary education from Drury University and a bachelor’s in elementary education from Southern University at New Orleans.
“I look forward to joining and supporting a community of educators, scholars, students, alumni and partners who are deeply committed to learning, service and meaningful impact,” Dr. Sartin added. “Together, we will continue building upon the college’s strong foundation by strengthening partnerships, expanding opportunities for students and preparing graduates to lead and serve in an evolving educational landscape.”
Georgia College also extends its great appreciation to Dr. Joanne Previts for her leadership as interim dean of the college since August 2024.
