Georgia Power issued a Real-Time Pricing (RTP) alert due to heat advisories: We need your help
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Dear Campus Community,
Georgia Power has issued a Real-Time Pricing (RTP) alert, with high peak demand pricing expected not only today (1 p.m. – 8 p.m.), but continuing through much of the week due to sustained high temperatures and increased grid demand.
These conditions mean electricity costs will remain elevated during afternoon and early evening hours, and continued conservation efforts will make a meaningful difference.
What You Can Do Each Day (1 p.m. – 8 p.m. Peak Hours)
Adjust Your Space.
- Set thermostats 2–4°F warmer where possible
- Dress for slightly warmer indoor conditions
Turn Off Lights
- Turn off lights when leaving rooms.
- Use natural daylight whenever possible.
Power Down Equipment
- Shut down or sleep computers, monitors and printers when not in use.
- Unplug unnecessary chargers and devices.
Keep the Heat Out
- Close blinds and shades — especially on sun-facing windows.
- Keep windows and doors closed to maintain cooling.
Limit Appliance Use
- Avoid using high-energy personal appliances during peak hours.
Sustained Effort Matters This Week.
Because elevated pricing is expected to persist through the week, we encourage everyone to:
- Make these actions part of your daily routine.
- Be especially mindful during the 1 p.m. – 8 p.m. window each day.
- Look for additional opportunities to reduce energy use when possible.
Thank You for Your Support
We appreciate your continued cooperation and commitment to reducing energy use during this extended period of peak demand.
