GCSU Energy Alert: Peak Demand Pricing in Effect This Week And How You Can Help

Dear Campus Community,

Georgia Power has issued a Real-Time Pricing (RTP) alert, with high peak-demand pricing from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. daily expected to continue throughout the week due to sustained high temperatures and increased grid demand.

Electricity costs will remain elevated during these hours. Your conservation efforts are critical in helping reduce energy use and associated costs across campus.

What You Can Do (1 p.m. – 8 p.m. Daily)

Adjust Your Space

  • Set thermostats 2 – 4°F higher where possible.
  • Dress for warmer indoor conditions.

Turn Off Lights

  • Turn off lights when leaving rooms.
  • Use natural daylight whenever possible.

Power Down Equipment

  • Shut down or sleep computers, monitors and printers when not in use.
  • Turn off equipment at the end of the workday.
  • Unplug unnecessary devices.

Keep the Heat Out

  • Close blinds and shades on sun-facing windows.
  • Keep windows and doors closed.

Limit Appliance Use

  • Avoid high-energy personal appliances during peak hours.
  • Delay non-essential equipment use when possible.

Sustained Effort Matters This Week

  • Make energy-saving practices part of your daily routine.
  • Focus efforts during 1 p.m. – 8 p.m. peak hours
  • Encourage others to participate.

Thank You for Your Support

Your cooperation helps reduce costs and eases demand on the regional power grid during this extended high-demand period.
