Campus community invited to Día de los Muertos celebration Nov. 2

The Department of World Languages & Cultures invites the GCSU community to learn about Spanish-speaking cultures at the "Día de los muertos" (Day of the Dead) celebration and gallery, a celebration of joy, remembrance and cultural significance.

Coinciding with the actual Day of the Dead celebrations in the Hispanic world, Dr. Diana Díaz-Gómez's students in "Spanish Composition and Structure" will give a brief presentation on the origins of the celebration, and students in “Intro to Spanish Language & Culture II” will share infographics about the different elements usually present in the ofrenda (altar). All materials include Spanish and English descriptions, and the entire GCSU community is welcome to stop by, regardless of language skills.

During this celebration, attendees will have the opportunity to visit an authentic ofrenda (altar) display where our students will honor notable Spanish-speaking figures.

Students in the Department of World Languages & Cultures are required to attend two cultural events per semester, and this event will count toward their cultural credit. Still, the event is open to anyone interested in learning about Spanish-speaking cultures.
