The Ripple Effect: Peer Academic Support Appreciation Week!

The Ripple Effect: Peer Academic Support Appreciation Week!

Georgia College Campus Community,

The Learning Center will be celebrating its peer academic support staff during the week of Nov. 2. We believe that peer academic support creates ripples that extend far beyond a single interaction, providing motivation for students to build confidence, pass their classes, stay enrolled, and, ultimately, graduate.

For an idea of how important these students are, consider the following data from just these first 10 weeks:

  • Over 7,000 student visits between SI review sessions, drop-in tutoring, and the math lab
  • 600 attendees to either the Algebra Review Workshops or the Excel Bootcamp sessions in just four weeks

Whether they're hosting drop-in tutoring or providing course specific review sessions, our student staff are passionate about their work and peer support. We want to show them that our campus sees their hard work!

Here are two quick and easy ways that you can show your appreciation:

  1. Stop by our "Ripple Effect Wall" during the week of Nov. 2
    • The idea is simple - grab a marker and leave a message! The glass front wall of the Learning Center will become a space for sharing encouraging messages for our student staff. Ideally, these messages will be brief, and they will speak to how our student staff have supported students or faculty in their courses.
  2. Write a note to an LC Staff Member.
    • If you would like to show a specific student your appreciation, please write a brief note or email a personalized message to the Learning Center. Written messages can be turned in at the front desk of the Learning Center, and email messages can be sent to learningcenter@gcsu.edu. We will share these messages with their intended recipient during the week of Nov. 2. If you would like to share a note or personalized message, we ask that you submit it by Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The river to success is peopled by all of those who support us in myriad ways, creating those ripples. We would love to see our campus community celebrate our peer academic support staff and the ripples that they create every day!
