HIGH DEMAND ALERT: Electricity Usage for Thursday, January 18

Georgia Power has once again issued an Alert for Thursday, Jan. 18, as extreme cold temperatures and high demand persists across the regional power grid. Peak-hour pricing will remain elevated during the morning hours of 7 a.m. through 12 p.m.

HIGH DEMAND ALERT: Electricity Usage for Wednesday, January 17

Georgia Power has issued an Alert for Wednesday, Jan. 17, as the extremely cold temperatures trigger high demand across the regional power grid. This is resulting in exceptionally high peak-hour pricing, particularly during the morning hours of 7 a.m. through 12 p.m.

Special Weather Statement: GCSU campus operations will continue as scheduled Friday, January 12.

Another low-pressure system is forecasted to move across the Southeast Region bringing showers and thunderstorms to Georgia Friday, January 12. Storms will have the potential to be strong to severe, but the greatest impacts to GCSU and Milledgeville are not expected until Friday evening after the close of business.

Georgia College & State University is monitoring weather forecasts. Normal business operations and classes will continue as scheduled. The safety of our students, faculty and staff remains the highest priority as we track the storms.

The automated Front Page daily email announcement delivered at 11 a.m. contained an earlier weather update. The information below is the latest official information from GCSU as of 11:15 a.m.

The GCSU campus will remain closed today due to ongoing severe weather, as well as intermittent power outages on campus and in the downtown Milledgeville area. Regular dining services at the MAX will continue and a variety of lunch options will be delivered to West Campus for service to residents between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Urgent: Due to the threat of severe weather, Georgia College will delay opening until noon Tuesday, January 9

The National Weather Service Peachtree City predicts showers and thunderstorms will sweep across the area during the day Tuesday, January 9. Some storms may be strong to severe, particularly south of a Columbus to Eatonton line. Severe thunderstorms that develop will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes. 

The GCSU campus will have a delayed opening Tuesday morning, January 9 with normal operations resuming at noon Tuesday. All classes and campus events that begin before noon are cancelled.
