On 27 June, 17-year-old Frenchman Nahel Merzouk was shot and killed by a police officer in Nanterre, a western suburb of Paris, during a traffic stop. His killing touched off weeks of widespread protests characterized by attacks on state/municipal buildings, the burning of cars, and police efforts to contain the protests. After 30 years of dedicated service to Georgia College & State University, Mark Bowen will retire at the end of July. He left an enormous mark on our institution and will be missed by all of us.
