Communities in Schools

Baldwin High School's prom will be held April 20,2024. We are seeking gently used prom dresses and tuxes in all sizes. Many of the students cannot afford to purchase these on their own for such a special occasion. Accessories (jewelry, purses and shoes) would also be appreciated. We are accepting items until April 15, 2024, and they can be dropped off in Chappell Hall #101.

Our annual winter clothing drive has begun! Seventy percent of Baldwin County students live in poverty and need new or gently used coats and new hats and gloves in all sizes please. You can drop them off at Chappell Hall, room 101.

We will be looking for volunteer tutors to serve at Lakeview Primary School (Kindergarten through second grade) starting in January for the following times. If you or anyone you know is interested, please complete our volunteer form and include your availability. Communities in Schools Milledgeville-Baldwin County is looking for volunteers to read in Baldwin County Schools Oct. 26 to celebrate Read for the Record Day. If you have about an hour that morning to read to the third graders at Midway Hills Academy, we can use your help. Please contact janet.cavin@gcsu.edu for further information.

A $21,950 grant from Robins Financial Credit Union will fund two years of the Summer Bridge program at Baldwin High School. The support was offered to Georgia College & State University’s Communities in Schools (CIS) for Milledgeville/Baldwin County. The transitional, week-long camp is for helping rising ninth graders acclimate to high school successfully. Sixty students went to the camp held July 17 – 20. Communities in Schools is already in full swing preparing for the 2023-24 school year for Baldwin County students.  Almost 30% of the children under age 18 in our community live in poverty. In order to help all of the students be ready for school, we are seeking new or gently used uniform items for boys and girls in all sizes.
