Celebrate the Opening of the Fishing Creek Trail, today, at the Oconee River Greenway

The creation of this segment of the Oconee River Greenway had a lot of support from Georgia College & State University.  Dr. Jim Lidstone, former director of the Center for Health and Social Issues, was a major catalyst in getting the City, County, and Greenway Authority together to compete for outside funding.  Mass Communication majors helped promote the Live Healthy Baldwin program through social media posts and event planning.  Geography Professor Dr. Doug Oetter and numerous Geography students donated over 500 hours of hard work to the surveying and design of the route, and much of that time qualified as matching for the funding grants

The Georgia College & State University bike committee remains ready to engage with others to make our community safer for biking and walking.  Georgia College is a Bike-Friendly University (Bronze level), and remains committed to improving and increasing wellness activities in and around campus.
