John Jackson named president-elect of the Georgia School Boards Association
Georgia College & State University’s John Jackson, director of Parking & Transportation and Baldwin County School Board member, has been elected to serve as president-elect of the Georgia School Boards Association.
His one-year term began in June. After that time, he will advance to president of the GSBA in June 2024.
GSBA represents 180 Georgia school districts.
“I look forward to supporting GSBA’s mission and the president,” Jackson said.
His focus is on school safety initiatives supported by the State of Georgia, Department of Education and GSBA.
“Safety has become a major focus of public education,” he said. “Everything has changed in the last decade, and it’s at the forefront of discussions for school boards across the state and country.”
According to Jackson, historically school safety has not been a focus.
“Currently, there's not training or resources for school boards, so they can't make informed decisions,” he said. “We know a lot about student performance and student success. But when it comes to school safety, it's a new frontier, and it's changing so quickly.”
Jackson is also a member of the Baldwin County Charter School System Foundation and the Baldwin County Early Learning Center Policy Council. He’s also served as a legislative liaison for GSBA to help shape education policy.
