Reflections on a career in public education and the value of the liberal arts: Legends of honors Zoom with GCSU Honors alumna Susan Presley

Originally from Statesboro, Georgia, Susan Presley studied history and international studies at Georgia College & State University. She was a member of the Honors Program, headed at that time by Dr. John Sallstrom and served as an officer in the Honors Student Association (renamed Eta Sigma Alpha during her time at GCSU), including a term as Eta Sigma Alpha president. Ms. Presley completed the Honors Program and graduated from GCSU in 1990. She went on to earn an M.A. in history from Georgia Southern University, an M.A. in English from GCSU and an Ed.S. in special education from Georgia Southern University. Ms. Presley devoted her career to public education in Savannah, at both the high school and technical college levels. After 26 years as a high school teacher, including 21 as department chair, Ms. Presley has retired from Windsor Forest High School. She will reflect on her career in public education and the insights, inspiration and guidance that study in the liberal arts provided.
