Georgia's Old Governor's Mansion offers tours for the holiday season

Georgia’s Old Governor’s Mansion offers its annual Christmas at the Mansion tours: now through Dec. 22. The mansion is open for tours Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Tours start on the hour and the last tour begins at 4 p.m. It’s closed outside of these dates.

Candlelight Tours are by reservation only. They take place Dec. 16 at 6, 7 and 8 p.m

The Candlelight Tours on Dec. 16 will showcase the Sweet Georgia Sound Ladies Acapella Choir, the First Baptist Church of Milledgeville hand bell choir and the Milledgeville Singers Guild who are going to be our performing ensembles that evening.

Tour goers will notice some things are different this year. The focus is on the year 1851 as the mansion’s period of interpretation during the administration of Howell Cobb.

“We look at the totality of a holiday experience for both the families of the governors and the enslaved, as well,” said Matt Davis, director of Historic Museums, Department of Historic Museums and School of Continuing and Professional Studies at Georgia College & State University.
