Bobcats earn No. 6 seed in Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament

AUGUSTA, Ga. | Georgia College & State University has qualified for the 2024 Peach Belt Conference Softball Tournament that will begin play Friday (April 26).

The Bobcats (27-26 overall, 10-14 Peach Belt) will be the No. 6 seed and face No. 3 seed Lander University in their first game of the tournament Friday (April 26) at 5 p.m. at Cougar Field in Columbus, Georgia.

For the second consecutive season, the PBC Tournament will play over two weekends. The opening weekend of the event will be played at two sites and hosted by No. 1-seed University of North Georgia and No. 2 seed Columbus State University. 

The No. 4 (Flagler College), No. 5 (University of South Carolina-Aiken) and No. 8  (Augusta University) seeds will play at UNG with the No. 3 (Lander), No. 6 (GCSU) and No. 7 (Georgia Southwestern State University) seeds at Columbus State. Each site will be a four-team double-elimination bracket with two games Friday (April 26), three Saturday (April 27) and one or two Sunday (April 28). The remaining teams from each site will then meet for a best-of-three championship series May 3-4 at the highest remaining seed. This format mirrors the NCAA regional format.

Tickets are $10 per person and must be purchased online in advance at https://peachbeltconference.org/sports/2020/10/14/tickets.aspx. Children ages five and under, and students with a valid ID from a PBC school are admitted free.

Below is the schedule for the Columbus State bracket:

Friday's games:
Game 1 - No. 7 seed Georgia Southwestern at No. 2 seed Columbus State, 2 p.m.
Game 2 - No. 6 seed GCSU vs. No. 3 seed Lander, 5 p.m.

Saturday's games:
Game 3 - Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2, noon
Game 4 - Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2, 3 p.m. (loser eliminated)
Game 5 - Loser Game 3 vs. Winner Game 4, 6 p.m. (loser eliminated)

Sunday's games
Game 6 - Winner Game 3 vs Winner Game 5, noon
Game 7 - (if necessary) - Winner Game 6 vs, Loser Game 6, 40 minutes following Game 6
