Student Leadership Tour Explores State of Georgia Businesses

Ten J. Whitney Bunting College of Business & Technology students travelled across Georgia during the first week of May. Nominated by faculty members, these high-achieving students represented disciplines across the college to businesses, alumni and government leaders throughout the state.

The trip, facilitated by Professor Jehan El-Jourbagy, was supported by GC Journeys with assistance from CoBT Dean Micheal Stratton, Sr. Development Officer Chris Hultquist and Business Outreach Coordinator Nancy Finney.

The student leaders visited an array of companies, business, and government entities. Some of the highlights included:

  • Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce
  • Blackbird Coffee
  • Fouts Bros
  • Hyundai Economic Development Project
  • Corcoran Austin Hill Realty
  • Gulfstream Aerospace
  • Motorcar Studio
  • Mercedes-Benz USA VPC
  • Jekyll Island Authority
  • Kings Bay Naval Base
  • Superior Court Judge Bert Guy
  • Nichols, Cauley & Associates
  • The Springer Opera House
  • Aflac
  • Skip Henderson, Mayor of Columbus
  • Chick-fil-A
  • Georgia Department of Economic Development
  • Wipfli
  • Aprio
  • BioScience Training Center in Stanton Springs
  • The Roessing Firm

All of these visits were done within the five days of the tour and provided students an opportunity to meet with industry leaders, ask questions, network with alumni at mixers and experience new places.

As part of the university’s strategic plan, the College of Business & Technology commits resources to support students in numerous ways. One of these is to engage them with the broader community.

Aaliyah Turman, a MIS major from Austell, Georgia said, “I learned about how many jobs/career paths there are available in Georgia.” She went on, “I learned how many opportunities there are, the importance of networking and qualities of good leadership and successful companies.”

“I realized Georgia is a super cool state,” said Nicole Rubin, a marketing major from Canton, Georgia. She continued, “We have cities but also swamps and beaches and islands! We are lucky to live here and have wonderful businesses and leaders all around us.”

It is a tenant of a liberal arts education to provide high-impact practices and community-based engaged learning. Consider supporting the annual CoBT Student Leadership Tour through our Foundation.
