Soccer picked to finish sixth in Peach Belt Conference
AUGUSTA, Ga. | The Peach Belt Conference preseason coaches poll for women's soccer has been released.
Georgia College & State University has been picked to finish sixth in the league.
Columbus State University, which finished second in the PBC regular-season standings, but won the PBC Tournament, was the top pick in the poll as they collected five first-place votes and 77 points, while the University of North Georgia, which won the PBC regular-season title, collected three first-place votes and was second with 71 points. Flagler College is in third place with 68 points and was followed by Lander University (60), Clayton State University (46), Georgia College (42), University of South Carolina-Beaufort (29), Georgia Southwestern State University (27), University of South Carolina-Aiken (21) and Albany State University (9). Flagler and Lander each received one first-place vote.
The Bobcats, who return a lot of experienced players (28) from last year's 8-8-2 squad that finished in sixth place in the Peach Belt Conference, open the 2024 campaign in Salisbury, North Carolina, for two matches. GCSU will face Chowan University at 5 p.m. Sept. 6, and they will round out the weekend Sept. 8 at 3 p.m. when they face No. 13 Catawba College. GCSU will open its home schedule at Bobcat Soccer Sept. 11 when they will entertain Middle Georgia State University in a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
