Legends of Honors with Dr. Sunita Manian

Legends of Honors with Dr. Sunita Manian

The 2024-2025 Legends of Honors Series—our Zoom-based programs for students, alumni and friends of the Honors College—kicks off with a presentation by Dr. Sunita Manian on Wed., Sept. 25, at 6 p.m. Dr. Manian has taught Honors courses for many years and has served a term on the Honors Faculty Council. The title of her presentation—“'I thought I was the only boy who liked boys': Experiences of Queer Youth in India”—relates to a comment made by a young man, Sagun, speaking about his sense of isolation as he tried to process his same-sex attraction as a young boy growing up in a small town in India. In her presentation, Dr. Manian will talk about sexual and gender diversity in Indian traditions historically and compare that to perceptions, attitudes and experiences in contemporary India. Through the voices of young people such as Sagun, she will share her research on what it means to be queer in India today.

Please register via the QR code in the flier or this embedded link and the Honors College will send you the Zoom link and a timely reminder.
