Sims, Miele named PBC Players of the Week
AUGUSTA, Ga. | Georgia College & State University's Will Sims and Caleb Miele have been named Baseball Players of the Week ending Feb. 9 by the Peach Belt Conference.
Sims was named the league's Pitcher of the Week, while Miele was tabbed the PBC Freshman of the Week.
Sims, a senior right-handed pitcher from McDonough, Georgia, made two relief appearances last week, pitching 5.0 innings with one hit and one earned run allowed. Sims, who struck out eight with no walks issued, pitched three hitless innings against Southern Wesleyan University in a 9-6 loss, striking out four. He pitched two innings against Eckerd College, giving up a solo home run and striking out four. Sims didn't record a decision, but lowered his season earned-run average to 1.50 and his opponent batting average to .095.
Miele, a freshman catcher from Brasleton, Georgia, was inserted into the starting lineup in the first two games against Eckerd, hitting .833 with a 1.000 slugging percentage and five RBI. Miele went 2-for-3 in the opener with a double and three RBI and went 3-for-3 in game two with two more RBI. Miele drew two walks and did not strike out.
The 13th-ranked Bobcats returns to action Friday (Feb. 14) when they host Lynn University in a noon doubleheader at John Kurtz Field.
