GCSU earns No. 5 seed in the Peach Belt Tournament
AUGUSTA, Ga. | Georgia College & State University has earned the No. 5 seed in the 2025 Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Tournament that will be held in Columbus, Georgia, this weekend.
The Bobcats (13-5 overall, 2-3 Peach Belt) finished in a three-way tie for third place with the University of North Georgia (10-6, 2-3) and Lander University (11-6, 2-3). The PBC tiebreak policy first looks at head-to-head results and all three are 1-1 against each other with Lander defeating GCSU, GCSU beating North Georgia and North Georgia winning against Lander.
The next step is results against the highest-seeded tournament seed, then the next seed and so on. All three teams lost their matches to both Flagler College (16-2, 5-0) and Columbus State University (11-9, 4-1) and all three defeated Augusta University (11-7, 0-5). With the tie still unresolved, the final step is to seed according to the latest ITA national rankings, released April 16. In that poll, North Georgia is ranked 22nd, Lander 26th and GCSU 28th. Therefore, North Georgia earned the No. 3 seed, Lander the No. 4 seed and GCSU is the No. 5 seed.
The Bobcats will face Lander in a 9 a.m. first round match Friday (April 25) at the John W. Walden Tennis Center. The Bearcats edged the Bobcats 4-3 in Milledgeville last month. The winner of the GCSU-Lander match will face the No. 1 seed Flagler, which is ranked No. 4 nationally, in Saturday's (April 26) 10 a.m. semifinal match.
On the other side of the bracket, North Georgia will face No. 6 seed Augusta in a 9 a.m. first round match Friday (April 25). The winner of that match will face No. 2 Columbus State at 10 a.m. Saturday (April 26) in the semifinals.
The championship match of the single-elimination tournament will be at 10 a.m. Sunday (April 27).
The winner of the PBC Tournament will earn the conference's automatic berth for the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Tournament.
