Employee Parking Policies FAQ

To reduce congestion in high-demand areas and improve parking for all students, faculty and staff, Georgia College & State University will implement the first phase of a new parking plan this fall.

Two levels of parking permits will be available to employees, each listed as follows:

  • A $240 parking permit grants access to all employee-designated lots.
  • A $50 permit grants access to the Irwin Street parking lot.
  • Executive Cabinet members will pay a 25% higher parking permit fee ($300) for designated spaces.

Registration for employee parking permits will open at 2 p.m. this Friday, May 2. Register online

  • NOTE: Permits will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limited number of $240 permits available (see attached campus map; full version available below).
  • Registration is being handled through an external site that can accommodate any desktop, laptop or mobile device and will have expanded capacity for handling a surge of traffic during the first several days of the registration period.
  • Students will register for parking permits beginning July 1.
  • For more details and answers to frequently asked questions, see below.

Parking FAQs

Who needs to have a parking permit?

  • Any student or employee parking a vehicle on campus is required to register for a valid university parking permit and to know and follow all university parking regulations.
  • Faculty and staff are eligible for employee parking permits.

Can I register multiple vehicles?

  • Yes. Multiple vehicles can be added to the same permit, but only one vehicle can be on campus at the same time.

How are permits paid for?

  • Payments in the amount of $20 per pay period for salaried positions (paid monthly) and $10 per pay period for hourly employees (paid biweekly) will be deducted automatically from employee paychecks.

When will the new plan become effective?

  • The employee rates will begin July 1. Enforcement starts Aug. 18, the first day of class for fall semester.

What happens if I would like a $240 parking permit but do not get one?

  • Parking and Transportation will maintain a waitlist for anyone that would like a $240 parking permit, and employees will be contacted in the order they registered as spaces become available.

Will I get a sticker or decal to display on my vehicle to prove I have a permit?

  • No. Permits are associated to license plate numbers and will be checked by Parking Services, via license plate recognition software.

Will new signage be installed to clearly identify student vs. staff/faculty parking?

  • Yes

Do I need to be on campus to register for a parking permit?

  • Parking registration can be completed using any computer or wireless device.

Can I register by phone?

Do I need to register every year?

  • After the initial registration, permits will renew automatically from year to year, unless otherwise directed.

If I register for an Irwin Street parking permit, will there be shuttles?

  • Yes. Shuttles will serve the Irwin Street parking lot from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Fridays.

How can I track shuttle locations and schedules?

  • Download the PassioGo app to track shuttle schedules and locations in real time.

When will parking enforcement begin?

  • The employee rates will begin July 1. Enforcement of lot restrictions starts on Monday, Aug. 18, the first day of class for fall semester.

Will ticket prices remain the same?

  • No. Parking violations will be ticketed at a higher rate than in the past to ensure compliance and to ensure that spots remain available for those who purchased permits. A driver could also receive multiple tickets in one day if a vehicle is not moved over three hours after a ticket is issued.

Will there be designated guest spaces?

  • Yes. Guest parking spaces will be available at Irwin Street, Centennial Center and West Campus parking, and potentially along Liberty Street between the Public Safety Office and the Peabody parking lot, if the university obtains approval to acquire this street property.

Will any adjustments be made if the plan causes problems?

  • Parking & Transportation will closely monitor permit purchases to assure that needs are met, closely monitor usage of lots beginning in August, as well as ridership of buses and shuttles from Irwin Street, and will solicit feedback via campus surveys during the first several weeks of the fall semester.
