Wilson headlines six Bobcats named to All-Peach Belt teams 

AUGUSTA, Ga. | Six Georgia College & State University baseball players landed on one of the All-Peach Belt Conference teams.

Bradley Wilson led the way as he was named the league's Pitcher of the Year in addition to being named to the All-PBC first team. Joining Wilson on the first team are Braeden Smith and Ben Hamacher. Mason Brown, Gabe Wuerth and Evan Cowan were second-team selections. Wilson is the fourth Bobcat in program history to be named the Pitcher of the Year in the Peach Belt and the first since Charlie Hecht was honored in 2018. It is the second All-PBC recognition for Smith and Wuerth and the first for Wilson, Hamacher, Brown and Cowan.

Wilson, a senior right-handed pitcher from Irwinton, Georgia, has gone 9-1 so far this season with a 2.02 earned-run average. Wilson is ranked seventh in NCAA Division II in wins and WHIP (1.29), ninth in games started (13) and s ranked 13th in ERA. Wilson is  tied for the league lead in wins and leads the conference in ERA and second in games started. Wilson was even more impressive in conference games, lowering his ERA to 1.35 and going 8-0 against league opponents. Named the PBC Pitcher of the Week twice during the season, Wilson threw two complete games and was a part of two shutouts.

Smith, a sophomore first baseman from Statham, Georgia, leads the Bobcats in hitting (.387, 70-of-181), hits, doubles (18), home runs (12), RBI, slugging percentage (.685), walks (44) and on-base percentage (.519). Smith, who was a PBC Player of the Week, is ranked 10th in NCAA Division II statistics in walks, 14th in RBI, 23rd in walks per game (0.85), 33rd in RBI per game (1.32), 37th in on-base percentage, 38th in doubles, 45th in total bases (123) and 48th in runs (57). Smith, who has 20 multi-hit and 18 multi-RBI games, is first in the PBC in slugging percentage and on-base percentage, second in walks and walks per game, third in doubles, RBI and RBI per game, fourth in homers, batting average and doubles per game (0.34), fifth in runs, runs per game (1.14) and home runs per game, sixth in hits and total bases, and ninth in hits per game (1.40).

Hamacher, a junior shortstop from Marietta, Georgia, was leads the team in runs (60) and walks (44), second in batting average (.352, 69-of-196) and hits, third in RBI (39), and fourth in doubles (9). Hamacher, who has 22 multi-hit games and 12 multi-RBI games, is ranked 10th in the NCAA in walks, 23rd in walks per game (0.88) and 28th in runs. he is ranked second in the Peach Belt in walks and walks per game, third in runs and sacrifice flies (5), fourth in on-base percentage (.470) and runs per game (1.20) and seventh in hits.

Wuerth, a junior second baseman from Woodstock, Georgia, leads the team in triples (5), second in doubles (15) and slugging percentage (.475),  third in batting average (.333. 66-of-198), hits (66), runs (46),  on-base percentage (.451) and walks (34). Wuerth, who was named a PBC Player of the Week, is ranked 45th in NCAA stats in triples. Wuerth, who has 20 multi-hit games in 2025, is ranked second in the PBC in triples and triples per game (0.10).

Cowan, a junior outfielder from Richmond Hill, Georgia, leads the squad in stolen bases (17) and hit by pitches (19), second in triples (2), third in on-base percentage (.451) fourth in .325 batting average (.54-of-166) and doubles (9), fifth in runs (41) and hits (54). He also has a home run, walked 20 times and had a .404 slugging percentage. Cowan, who has a 16 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games for the Bobcats, is ranked 26th in the NCAA in hit by pitches, 31st in hit by pitches per game (0.42) and 45th toughest to strikeout (13.8). He is ranked first in the Peach Belt in hit by pitches per game, second in hit by pitches, third toughest to strikeout, and fifth in stolen bases and stolen bases per game (0.38).

Brown, a senior left-handed pitcher from Lilburn, Georgia, has a 7-2 record with a 3.56 ERA in 12 appearances (10 starts). Brown has allowed just 24 earned runs and 55 hits while striking out 34 in 60.2 innings. Brown is ranked sixth in the league in ERA and ninth in WHIP (1.29). 

No. 3 GCSU will face No. 6 Flagler College in a 6:30 p.m. first-round game of the PBC Tournament Friday (May 2) at Dolny Stadium in Greenwood, South Carolina. Tickets are $10 per person per day and must be purchased online in advance at https://peachbeltconference.org/sports/2020/10/14/tickets.aspx. Children ages five and under, and students with a valid ID from a PBC school are admitted free. All games of the PBC Tournament will be available via pay-per-view. The cost of the pay-per-view is $10 per game. There are also options for a pass for all games this weekend ($25) or an all-tournament pass that covers this weekend and next week's championship series ($40).
