Public Safety Monthly Safety Tips for May

End-of-Semester Safety Checklist

Personal Safety and Security

  • Lock all doors and windows before leaving campus housing or apartments.
  • Don’t post detailed travel plans on social media.
  • Store valuables in a secure location or take them home.

Packing & Moving:

  • Lift with your legs, not your back — ask for help with heavy items.
  • Don’t overload carts, stairs, or vehicles.
  • Be aware of traffic and pedestrians when loading vehicles.

Travel Safety:

  • Ensure your vehicle is road-trip ready (check oil, brakes, tires).
  • Let someone know your travel plans and estimated arrival times.
  • Avoid distractions while driving; take breaks on long trips.

Health & Wellness:

  • Stay hydrated and protect yourself from the heat while moving out.
  • Be mindful of stress or anxiety about the transition — it’s normal.
  • Check in with friends or roommates to ensure everyone’s doing okay.

Have a Good Time:

  • Travel.
  • See new things.
  • Make new friends and memories.
  • Take lots of photos.
  • Come back to us safe and sound in the fall.
