Voice of the Bobcats Scott MacLeod to be inducted into the Friends of Georgia Radio Hall of Fame
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Georgia College & State University's Voice of the Bobcats Scott MacLeod will need to find room on his trophy shelf.
MacLeod, who has been a fixture in Milledgeville radio since 1978, is being honored for his enduring presence at WMVG/WKZR and his thousands of play-by-play broadcasts covering Georgia College and high school sports along with Georgia Military College football games. A three-time Georgia Sportscaster of the Year, he was inducted into Georgia College's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.
MacLeod, along with eight other honorees, will be celebrated August 23 at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center in Sandy Springs, Georgia. A reception will start at 6 p.m. followed by the dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets for the event can be purchased by clicking here.
"I'm truly humbled and honored to be recognized by Friends of Georgia Radio," said MacLeod. "Just like with Georgia College & State University athletics, this has been a true team effort, thanks to my family, my co-workers and management and our listeners.
"It has been a joy and a pleasure to be the 'Voice of the Bobcats' to bring GCSU baseball and basketball to listeners and now viewers on the Bobcat Broadcast Network," added MacLeod. "Many thanks to the coaches and the players for working with me. They've given me so many great memories. I'm looking forward to adding more!"
MacLeod, who is the sports director at WMVG/WKZR, has been the Voice of the Colonials and Bobcats since he called his first Georgia College baseball game in 1978 and he added basketball in 1990.
Highlights of the his nearly 50 years behind the GCSU microphone include trips to the NAIA baseball World Series in 1985, the NAIA basketball national championship tournament in 1990, the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship in 1995 and 2010, and to the NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament in 1996,1997,1999, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2022.
MacLeod began his broadcasting career in 1973 on radio station WKMI in Kalamazoo, Michigan, as a sports reporter. He worked at WKMI for four years until earning his degree from Western Michigan University. After graduation, MacLeod migrated to the south in Milledgeville in 1978 where he worked as the sports director for WXLX Radio.
MacLeod and his wife Susi have two daughters, Heather and Leigh.
