As GCSU integrates artificial intelligence into more areas of study, Dr. Wu’s expertise helps ensure students are graduate ready to apply data-driven decision-making across industries from baseball to information security

Before teaching machine learning or guiding students through real-world analytics projects, Dr. Daniel Wu, assistant professor of data science, spent nearly 20 years in corporate IT — writing code, managing databases and solving complex data problems that demanded both precision and creativity.

Wu’s career began as a database administrator at a Pennsylvania credit union, followed by a senior role at AD Inc. His hands-on experience in high-stakes, data-driven environments shaped his teaching philosophy: “The best way to learn is by doing.”

That mindset defines his work at Georgia College & University, where he joined the faculty in 2024. In his classroom, students don’t just learn algorithms — they apply them. From partnering with the GCSU baseball team to analyze performance data to working with local businesses on real analytics challenges, Dr. Wu’s students experience data science as a discipline that connects theory to impact.

Holding a Ph.D. in information science and technology from Drexel University, Wu’s research spans AI-driven innovation, sports analytics and bioinformatics. His academic journey — from a biochemistry degree in China to computer science and information systems in the U.S. — reflects the interdisciplinary nature of modern data science.

Outside the classroom, Wu stays active in the global tech community as a member of IEEE and ACM, and he holds certifications as a certified information security manager and information system auditor. A marathon runner, he brings the same endurance and focus to his teaching that he does to the finish line.

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries, Wu is helping Georgia College students build the skills — and mindset — to thrive in a data-driven world.
