GCSU Students Produce Holiday Variety Show Featuring Music, Traditions and Festive Fun
Students in Georgia College & State University’s Department of Communication are producing 'GC Home for the Holidays,' a festive variety show. You are invited to watch the premiere on Thursday, Dec. 18, on YouTube.
The student-produced program features faculty, staff and students from the GCSU community sharing musical performances, holiday recipes, cultural traditions and favorite family celebrations. The show offers viewers an entertaining mix of talent and traditions that capture the spirit of the season.
Junior Mass Communication and Spanish major Talia Hayes will share her family’s Hanukkah traditions alongside her mother, demonstrating a traditional recipe and the game of Dreidel.
“Having my mom on set to be a part of the Hanukkah segment felt like the perfect way to share our traditions with others,” Hayes said.
Senior Mass Communication major with minors in Spanish and Rhetoric Madelyn Agostini is featured in a segment showcasing a funny gingerbread house challenge.
“It was a blast,” Agostini said. “It was also the first time using a lighting kit for our set, which was challenging but went really well.”
The production serves as a hands-on learning experience for communication students, who are volunteering their time outside of regular coursework.
“What makes this production particularly meaningful is that students are doing this entirely on their own initiative," said Angela Criscoe, executive director of the School of Continuing & Professional Studies, faculty adviser and producer for the project. "They're applying classroom knowledge to create broadcast-quality content while managing the demands of finals week. That's the kind of dedication that defines our Georgia College students and future media professionals.
While the students prepare for the show’s premiere, they are also balancing deadlines for the end of the semester. The crew aims to send the campus community into winter break celebrating the warmth and joy of the holiday season.
'GC Home for the Holidays' will premiere on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. on YouTube, @GChomefortheholidays, https://www.youtube.com/@gchomefortheholidays. You can also follow them on Instagram or Facebook @gchomefortheholidays.
