Vehicle Break‑Ins Reported Near Campus

GCSU’s Department of Public Safety advises students to stay alert following recent vehicle break‑ins at apartment complexes close to campus, where many of our students live. While these incidents occurred off campus, we want to help you stay safe and protect your property.

Tips to Keep Your Vehicle Secure

1. Remove valuables.

  • Take all items with you — bags, electronics, wallets, keys, etc.
  • If you must leave something behind, store it out of sight before you arrive at your parking spot.

2. Lock your vehicle.

  • Always check that all doors and windows are locked.
  • Don’t rely on your key fob alone — listen for the lock sound or check manually.

3. Choose well‑lit, highly visible parking areas.

  • Park near building entrances, streetlights or areas with high foot traffic.
  • Avoid isolated or dimly lit corners of parking lots.

4. Report any suspicious activity immediately.

  • Unfamiliar individuals looking into cars.
  • People pulling on door handles.
  • Anyone loitering around parking lots late at night.

Report suspicious activity to GCSU DPS at 4400 (from a campus phone).
 Or call DPS directly: 478‑445‑4400.
 For emergencies, call 911.
