An Evening of Poetry with Alice Friman and Kerry James Evans

Georgia College & State University is pleased to host an evening of poetry with Alice Friman, newly inducted into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame, and Kerry James Evans, associate professor of English and coordinator of the Creative Writing Program at Georgia College. Both poets will read from their recent collections.

Alice Friman is the author of eight full-length collections, most recently On the Overnight Train: New and Selected Poems (LSU Press, 2024), winner of the Society of Midland Authors Poetry Prize. A two-time Pushcart Prize recipient with work in The Best American Poetry, she has held fellowships from MacDowell, Yaddo, Millay and VCCA. She was inducted into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame in 2026.

Kerry James Evans is the author of Nine Persimmons (Backwaters/University of Nebraska, 2026) and Bangalore (Copper Canyon), a Lannan Literary Selection. His poems have appeared in Agni, The American Poetry Review, New England Review, Ploughshares and elsewhere. He serves as coordinator of the Creative Writing Program at Georgia College and coeditor and managing editor of Peach, launching spring 2027.
