Georgia College & State University’s coming-of-age production, “Leveling Up,” explores the fears, hesitancy, obstacles and sometimes courageous rites-of-passage into adulthood facing today’s youth. The production opens Wednesday, Nov. 8, and runs through Sunday, Nov. 12, in the Campus Black Box Theatre. Written by Deborah Zoe Laufer, the play explores the stagnant lives of three roommates who graduated from college two years earlier—but still spend their time on the couch playing video...
Georgia College & State University Professor of Art History Dr. Fadhili Safieli Mshana has a newly-published book, “African Artists Under Mission Patronage: Focus on Tanzania,” exploring the relationships between African artists and Western Christian missions—and how missionary patronage helped shape and define art in Africa during the 20th century. “The Department of Art would like to celebrate the scholarship of Dr. Mshana,” said Matt Forrest, interim chair and associate professor...

Georgia College & State University students, faculty and staff are celebrating El día de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in several locations on campus this week. Working with faculty in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, students in SPAN 1002 built an altar—called an ofrenda—in the front atrium of Arts & Sciences. Members of the GCSU Latino Student Association (LSA) built their ofrenda in The Hub last week, where it has since been on display. According to The Mexican Museum,...

As the artificial stakes of the virtual world melt into real consequences, they discover that adulthood may not be the hero quest they wanted, but perhaps it's the one they need. Directed by Jeremy Lee...

Spotlight on Students Evan Leavitt, Facilities Manager, of the Ina Dillard Library generously prepared a unique location for the ceramics art students to present their self-portraits with the books they love. Identity through clay was on their mind as they created additional content for their installation. GCSU ceramics art students are exhibiting their project “Presence” October 31 through November 16, 2023, in the Ina Dillard Library. After a tedious learning exercise in figurative...
Walking campus this fall, you might’ve seen some peculiar sights. On Front Campus, student groups were moving on and off tarps, touching and calling out numbers. Students were seen building tall towers, piece-by-piece with plastic piping. On the walkway between Arts & Sciences and Beeson Hall, groups moved slowly, tightly gripping brightly-colored bandanas and balancing cups of water. These activities are being used in Dr. Lee Gillis’ senior capstone class “Experiential Therapies.”...
