The GCSU Math Jeopardy team won its sectional tournament for the third time in four years, including two years in a row, May 27 at the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Southeastern Section Meeting. A total of 26 teams from 19 different colleges and universities competed at the tournament held at the University of North Alabama. Georgia College had two teams compete this year, but they faced each other in the first round. The winning team consisted of senior Anna Marti, juniors...
The 2026 joint March and April meetings, now called the APS Global Physics Summit, is a scientific research conference that brings together more than 14,000 physicists from around the world to showcase their work, connect with others and discover groundbreaking physics research. Dr. McGill was able to take his entire research group to the meeting. His research group has both Chemistry and Physics majors. Carlos Lopez-Blackwell, senior Chemistry major, said, “Attending the APS Conference...
Six Chemistry majors represented Georgia College & State University earlier this month in San Antonio, Texas, at PITTCON, the world's largest analytical chemistry conference. Not only did the students successfully present their projects, but also represented GCSU in networking with numerous companies and organizations. One of the companies - LECO Mobile Analytical Labs - is making a special stop in Milledgeville on Tuesday, March 24, from 3 to 4:40 p.m. The LECO Mobile Lab will be parked...
Congratulations to the six Chemistry majors who represented Georgia College & State University in San Antonio, Texas, at PITTCON, the world's largest analytical chemistry conference. The following students presented their original undergraduate research at the conference: Seniors Sophia Meere, Carter Barnes and Bailey DassowJuniors Morgan Collins, Thomas Rice and Camille HodekThe students were mentored in their research by Drs. Lisse, McGill and Rosado. Not only did the students successfully...
Join us Monday, March 23, at 5 p.m. in A&S, room 243 as Dr. Brandon Samples gives a short mathematics talk exploring the fascinating Kaktovik numeral system, a base-20 system developed by middle school students in Kaktovik, Alaska. The talk will introduce the origins of the system, explain how the numerals work and highlight why this student-invented system is both elegant and mathematically powerful.Mini Math Talks are 20-30 minute presentations about anything related to math, given...

By Al Weston When Georgia College & State University alumna Cristalei Polk (‘16) walks into the Georgia State Capitol, she isn’t just representing her profession. She’s representing her patients. A licensed and certified prosthetist-orthotist practicing in Atlanta, Polk helps patients regain mobility after amputation or injury. She fabricates and fits prosthetic and orthotic devices, and provides ongoing care. Over time, Polk noticed a recurring obstacle no amount of clinical skill...
Please join the Department of Mathematics for a Mini Math Talk, "The Unseen Mathematical Forces that Shape Our World" given by Georgia College & State University student Ashton Mullendore on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 5-5:30 p.m, in A&S 140. Mini math talks are 20-30-minute presentations about any topic related to math. All are welcome! Snacks will be provided.
