Old GeorgiaVIEW/D2L courses to be deleted in fall 2026

Old GeorgiaVIEW/D2L courses to be deleted in fall 2026

As shared in a previous announcement, the Learning Management System Storage Policy was recently adopted by the USG. In accordance with this policy and to help improve the management of the LMS, courses in GeorgiaVIEW that are more than five (5) years old (or that have not been accessed in the last five years) will soon be deleted from GeorgiaVIEW. Please review the important information below and contact us if you have any questions or need assistance.

Exactly which courses will be deleted?

To help you identify your courses, we have created a searchable database of courses that are scheduled to be deleted in the coming months. Both Banner-provisioned (academic) and non-academic courses (such as “sandbox” courses) are listed in this database. You may search for those courses using your e-mail, first or last name or course prefix.

Timeline

Banner-provisioned and non-Banner-provisioned courses that are more than five years old (summer 2020 or older) will be purged from the LMS this fall. The current timeline for all courses to be deleted from GeorgiaVIEW in this round is as follows:

  • Instructors will be unenrolled from courses to be deleted beginning on Sept. 7, 2026.
  • Courses will be deleted beginning on Nov. 30, 2026.

What is being deleted?

The course shells and all contents, including faculty content, course files, student work (e.g., assignments, quizzes, and other assessments), and student interactions (e.g., discussions, group work, and collaborations), will be permanently deleted. No backup will exist after courses are deleted from GeorgiaVIEW/D2L.

How do I retain course content?

For detailed instructions on exporting course content and student data, visit the USG website Archiving Student Data in Brightspace. A video tutorial on how to export grades from the grade book is available here.

Instructors who wish to archive student data and/or course structure & content files should do so in an approved storage repository outside of the LMS, such as OneDrive. Instructors will need to back up all course content and student data prior to losing course access on Sept. 7.

Need help?

We understand that with this new policy comes questions and changes in how you typically rely on past course content stored in the LMS. The Center for Teaching & Learning is available to answer any questions and provide support as you navigate the process of backing up data outside of the LMS. Please reach out to us at ctl@gcsu.edu or 478-445-2520 if we can help with this new process.
