On Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m., Dr. Dana Gorzelany-Mostak, associate professor of music and author of Tracks on the Trail: Popular Music, Race, and the U.S. Presidency (University of Michigan Press, 2023), will lead a Zoom-based Legends of Honors discussion on musical engagement and the articulation of racial identities in the campaigns of Donald Trump, Kamala Harris and Vivek Ramaswamy. In October, Dr. Jenny Flaherty led students in her Honors GC2Y “Underworlds and Afterlives” class on a journey to New York City. They explored cultural resources, such as exhibits at the MET and musicals like “Hadestown,” related to theme of the course. The Honors College raised funds for this program through a spring 2023 Giving Challenge campaign. As you can see in this slideshow, the students found the journey both meaningful and fun! Originally from Statesboro, Georgia, Susan Presley studied history and international studies at Georgia College & State University. She was a member of the Honors Program, headed at that time by Dr. John Sallstrom and served as an officer in the Honors Student Association (renamed Eta Sigma Alpha during her time at GCSU), including a term as Eta Sigma Alpha president. Sallstrom Honors College is pleased to announce that Dr. Jennifer Graham (2005, Psychology) has been selected as Honors Alum of the Year and that Dr. Dorianna Dobson (2018, Biology) and Kevin Morris (2017, History & Economics) have been selected as joint Honors Young Alums of the Year.
